National Forest Campgrounds

Pay National Forest Campgrounds:

  • The Mary E Campground (First-Come, First-Serve)- 7 miles (15 minutes) down valley from Telluride in Illium. More info here.

  • Sunshine Campground (First-Come, First-Serve)- 9 miles (15 minutes) from town, $28 per night. More info here.

  • Matterhorn Campground (Reservations required)- 13 miles (20 minutes) from town, hookup, showers ($8 for non-guests), $26 per night with reservation. More info here.

  • Woods Lake Campground (First-Come, First-Serve)- 22 miles (45 minutes) from town. $20 per night. More info here.

Free National Forest Campgrounds and Primitive/ Dispersed Campsites::

  • Alta Lakes Dispersed Camping- 13 miles (30 minutes) from town, low clearance vehicles not recommended. Map location here.

  • Priest Lake Dispersed Camping- 13 miles (25 minutes) from town. Map location here.

  • Lizard Head Pass- 16 miles (25 minutes) from town. Allowed on the east side of the highway at Lizard Head Pass. Map location here.

  • Other campsites can found scattered along certain forest service roads. Popular spots include Priest Lake Road, Last Dollar Road, and Silverpick Road.
