Registration opens February 1, 2026
65-mile Pre-Registration
The 65-mile run is an advanced level run and a certain amount of technical mountain ultra-running experience is needed to register. During pre-registration you will be asked to give examples of races or personal runs that show a good representation of your mountain running experience. We will be looking for races in the 40+ mile distance with a significant amount of vertical gain over rough terrain (Example- TMR 40, Ouray 50) or challenging 100-mile mountain races that include challenging terrain and/or high altitude (Example- Hardrock, High Lonesome, Crazy Mountain). If you’re not much of a racer please share personal runs that you have done that show distance, vertical gain, and more importantly, travel across rough mountain terrain. Big mountain linkups are great prerequisite experience!
After completing the pre-registration, we will review it and either accept or deny it based on your experience level. If accepted, Ultrasignup.com will complete your registration and take your payment similar to a lottery system. We will review all pre-registrations in the order that they are received and we will try to accept or deny within a couple days of receiving them.
Many runners are surprised at how challenging our runs are. If you have limited experience running in the San Juan Mountains, running at high altitude, running along loose, exposed terrain, etc., please consider running one of our shorter distances before attempting to tackle the 65-mile run. It is a common opinion that our 40-mile run is more demanding than many of the “challenging” 50-mile races in Colorado.
All registration is done through Ultrasignup.com
Cancellation Policy (Please Read!)

If you are not able to run, please cancel your registration on Ultrasignup so that we can make space for another runner. To cancel your registration on Ultrasignup, log into your account, navigate to “registration history”, find “Telluride Mountain Run”, click “edit” and “delete” to cancel.
TRANSFERS
Runners can transfer their registration to another runner anytime before August 19. To transfer your registration follow these steps from Ultrasignup.com:
The transferor will see a "Transfer Registration" button on their order edit screen. The order edit screen can be accessed via the Edit link on their receipt or in their registration history (if they did not register as a guest). The original order is "removed" and a 100% credit is added to the system for the exact event under the transferee's name and email. The transferee is also sent an invitation that will let them bypass a closed or filled event.
WAITLIST
Sorry, no waitlist. If there are enough cancellations in any distance we will make an announcement on our Instagram account reopen registration. This typically happens in August when we receive a lot of cancellations.
CHANGING DISTANCES
Runner’s can move down in distance before August 19 if there are spaces available in that distance. If no space is available, your name will be added to a list and you will be contacted when a spot becomes available.. this usually takes a while (months). We typically compile a very long list of runners wanting to switch from the 40-mile to the 24-mile. If you’re not sure about running the 40-mile, it’s best to play it safe and sign up for the 24-mile while there is space available.
Race Director CANCELLATION
If the race is cancelled by the Race Director before race day due to natural disaster or unsafe conditions (ie. forest fires, Covid-19, other things outside of our control), runners will receive a credit towards next year's race.
